KNOW YOUR NUMBER

Just because you're still hitting the original Big Bertha, your foursome gives you greif about being a penny pincher. So, even though you’re hitting it pretty well, you decide it’s time for an upgrade. You head out and pick up the latest and greatest new driver with an "R" shaft just like your old faithful gamer and head to the course.

After a few swings you realize something’s way off. Maybe your new “R” shaft is so soft you could take a nap waiting for the face to close or it’s so stiff your sciatica is crying the blues after only 5 swings. You’re baffled. It’s the same length, same 204 grams in the head and an "R" shaft just like Old Faithful. SO WHAT GIVES?

The truth is, as you probably know, all regular shafts aren’t the same. In some cases they’re not even close. In fact, some regular shafts are stiffer than some stiff shafts. Some stiff shafts are stiffer than some "X" shafts and so on. Now, that's actually a good thing since it gives you tons of options when looking for a shaft.

Of course, the challenge is finding it.  And, since most of us can’t spend our Mondays testing clubs and shafts on the range like the Pros, knowing where you land on our TourShaft Flex Chart to the left is a great place to start your search for the perfect shaft.

So, let's get down to the NUMBERS! Golf shaft stiffness is sometimes measured using a machine called a FREQUENCY ANALYZER. This machine counts how many times the shaft flexes in front of a laser counter. The higher the NUMBER, the stiffer the shaft, regardless of the letter printed on it.

At TourShaft, we’ve frequency tested some of the game's best shafts. You can see how they stack up on our TourShaft Flex Chart. We’re adding more every day so check back often for the latest results. As you can see, it’s not as simple as A, R, S, or X

Let’s say you’re playing a shaft with a frequency rating of 255 but you've been hitting the gym lately and now it’s a little soft for you. You can check the Flex Chart for shafts that are a little stiffer than 255 and you’re on your way to finding the right shaft for you and miles ahead of just guessing and hoping for the best.

With a nice set of clubs running into the thousands these days, time and effort spent finding YOUR FLEX NUMBER will pay off big in the long run. You'll spend less time guessing and more time playing the best shaft for you. And, although a lot of factors go into fitting a golf shaft, KNOWING YOUR NUMBER is a great place to start and can be a critical part of having more fun and getting the most return from your hard-earned investment.  - TourShaft ©2022 TourShaftGolf
